A

Acne  
Skin inflammation as a result of oil and bacteria assembly. 
Activator 
 A chemical ingredient added to hair bleach to speed up the action of the bleach without damaging the hair. 
Ampoule 
It fights wrinkles and brightens your skin. You can find ampoules in a small bottle with an eyedropper. 

B

BB Cream 
Beauty balm that works both as a moisturizer and foundation. 

Benzoyl Peroxide 
Acne-fighting ingredient used in cleansers and creams 

Bronzer 
A powder that creates a tanning glow on your skin 

Brow Pomade 
It’s an eyebrow product that darkens and intensifies your brows

Cat-Eye 
Eyeliner that fans out at the edge of your eye 

CC Cream 
Color-correcting cream 

Concealer 
Creamy liquid product used to hide any blemishes on your face or dark areas under your eyes. It’s usually applied after liquid foundation 

Cupids bow 

Accentuate your lips using a darker shade to get a plumper lip.

DD Cream 
Dynamic-do-all creams specialize in smoothing out wrinkles and balancing your skin tone. 

Dewy 
Refers to the radiant, glowing finish of a BB cream or foundation 

Doe Foot 

Spongey makeup applicator usually found in lipstick and lip-glosses that has a slanted end.

Exfoliant 
A product that you use to remove the layer of dirt and dead skin cells from your face and body. 

Eyelash Curler 

Tool used to pinch the eyelashes in an upward direction, making them appear longer and to add volume.

Falsies 
Refers to fake eyelashes. 

Flashback 

When a wrong shade or poor-quality foundation is used, it causes a white cast on your skin when captured with a camera. 

G

Glitter 

It may be in liquid form or pressed eyeshadows which is safer to use around the eyes.  

Gradient 

Gradient refers to the blending between adjacent colors of eyeshadow or transparency of a product into a person’s natural skin tone. 

Gua Sha 

Originating from China, this beauty tradition uses a smooth-edged tool for facial or body massage.

Half Cut Crease 

Style of eyeshadow where the “cut” line extends from the inner corner of the eye in the crease to the midpoint of the eyelid. 

Halo Eye 

Style of eyeshadow where the outer and inner corners of the eyelid are darker, and the center of the eyelid has a lighter shade. 

I

Inner Corner 

Small area next to the tear duct between the eye and the bridge of the nose.

K-Beauty 
Refers to the Korean beauty industry.  

Kabuki Brush 
A thick, short brush that’s used to apply powder foundation to your skin. 

L

Lash Glue 

Glue specifically designed to stick fake lashes to the eye. 

Lip Tint/Stain 

This product gives the lips a slight stain without much shine or gloss.  

M

Matte
The non-shiny finish of foundation and BB creams.

Outer Corner  

Area of the eyelid just above the outermost part of the eye, sometimes referred to in a “V” shape following the outer lash line and into the crease of the eye.

Primer
A liquid, cream, or powder makeup product that goes on before your foundation.

Q

Q-switched laser treatment  

It’s equipped to treat hyperpigmentation and uneven skin tone

Retinol 

It’s a form of vitamin A, for diminishing wrinkles, fine lines and dull skin. 

S

Salicylic Acid 
A skincare ingredient that shrinks and reduces the appearance of pimples. 

Sequin 

A formula type used in pressed powder eyeshadows, where the base is matte and contains flecks of glitter.  

Spoolie 

Also called a mascara wand. 

T

T-Zone 

Area of the face consisting of the forehead, nose, and chin, which forms the shape of an uppercase T. This is the oiliest part of the face for most people. 

Toner 
Toner is very similar to essence, except toner is waterier. It goes on your face before your moisturizer to prep your skin for hydration. 

Tightlining 

Applying eyeliner right into the lash line or as close as possible to the root of your lashes.  

T-Zone 
Oilier parts of the face such as your forehead, nose, and chin form the T-Zone of your face. 

U

Undertone 

This refers to the subtle hue underneath the original skin tone or color. 

W

Waterline 
The area between your eye and your eyelashes. Make sure your eyeliner is waterproof before applying it to the waterline area. 

Winged Eyeliner 
An eyeliner technique that forms a wing at the edge of your eyes. 

Y

Ylang essential oil  

It smells heavenly and is being used in some of the most popular international fragrances.
